Don't know if this belongs here or not.  I just thought since this is the area for the creative stuff, I would post it here.

Well, as we all know Hogan's Heroes was canceled without receiving a proper send off.  Crying or Very sad

What would you have liked to see in a finale for Hogan's hero's?

My idea is that the heroes get a message telling them to prepare for liberation from Stalag 13 any day now. The Allied troops are on their way and Germany's defeat is now imminent.   But somehow before then, Hochstetter finally uncovers their operation.  Like maybe he accidentally stumbles upon the secret entrance to the tunnel OR just happens to be in the right place at the right time and witnesses the heroes going into or coming out of the tunnel.

Hochstetter is now determined that the heroes will never see their liberation and plans to have them all executed. Being the sadistic person he is, he has the heroes put in the cooler for the night so they have time to think about and fear their upcoming execution.

Hogan apologizes to his men about how things are going to end.  However, the heroes tell him that they dont regret anything about the part they had played in the war.

Meanwhile Klink realizes how he has come to respect Hogan and even see him as a friend over the last couple of years. Finally he grows a backbone and tells Hochstetter just what he really thinks of him. When Hochstetter opens his mouth to scream at him. Klink tells him to shut up and reminds him that he does outrank him. Klink's dressing down of Hochstetter causes Burkhalter to finally respect Klink. Burkhalter then orders that Hochstetter be arrested.

Burkhalter hates Hochstetter so I think he would love the chance to have him arrested of sent to the Russian Front.  This could be the perfect chance for him.

Once the heroes are out of the cooler, Klink tells them that when the allies come, he and the staff of Stalag 13 will surrender peacefully. Hogan tells him that he will do everything in his power to make sure Klink and Schultz are let off easily.

I also think somewhere along the line, Klink should show some kind of appreciation for Schultz.  And maybe Schultz asking Klink to come to work for him at the Schatzi Toy Company.  That sounds like a nice ending for the 2 of them.

The finale could end with Hogan and his men receiving a heroes welcome in London. The ycan all talk about what they plan on doing now that they have been liberated. Newkirk and LeBeau plan on helping in the rebuilding of their countries.  Then LeBeau of course plans on opening a restaurant (specializing in not only french food, but also different foods from America, England Germany etc. after all he should know by now that other countries have good dishes too)
Newkirk will go back to performing for audiences.
Hogan, Carter and Baker will go back to the States of course. I can see Hogan returning to military life.
Carter will decide to return to his hometown and try to get his old job back at the drugstore.
As for Baker, well........Anyone know what he did before the war? And whatever happened to Kinch?

Then right before everyone goes their own separate ways, Hogan thanks them all for all their effort and hard work. He tell them he will always think of them as his friends and brothers.  Then maybe they all agree to have a reunion once every year.

Well, that's my idea for a Hogan's Heroes finale. I know it sounded a little sappy but hey, it's a finale. We need a little emotion and sappiness.

So what are your ideas?

Edit:  I just realized that I used to word You're instead of Your in the thread title.  I speak English yet I fail at it.  Laughing

To be quasi historically correct, they would have had to have been liberated as the German forces retreated and the allies advanced. Reality would be that they would be properly suited up and armed then join the fighting.  But for the show they would simply go home.  Most likely the Stalag would have been abandoned by the German guards. and the prisoners, waking up in the morning by a tap on the shoulder of an allied soldier.  Klink would probably had to order his men assembled (likely in the dead of night), then marched down the road to meet up with their fighting comrades.  The Nazi's fought to almost the last man and didn't cry Onkel until Berlin was surrounded on all sides by allies and finally over run.

To add levity, maybe Klink would have taken his less than able bodied soldiers and gone AWOL and gotten 'lost' in the woods until the fighting stopped.  Then Hogan would be summoned to stick up for Klink and Schultz, with Schultz going home to his wife and re-opening his factory.  Klink would have been hired as a bookkeeper, even though Schultz knew Klink was not a very good bookkeeper.  It would have been revealed that Klink and Shultz were actually part of the resistance, but keep their secret so as to not tip off the Gestapo.  Hochstatter would have been arrested and tried for War Crimes.  We would see all of the boys board a truck for home, except LeBeau.

We'd see LeBeau board a train for Paris.  He would  find one of his family members (sister?)  then ask, "Mamma?  Pappa?."  His sister would simply shake her head... fade to black.

NFG,

I love your finale.  It would have been PERFECT!  I just wished we could have seen it. You should write it up into a full-fledged story! I think the sappiness was spot on.  I mean the guys truly loved each other.

Remember when Newkirk thought LeBeau had been shot?  He said, "Colonel, me mate's been shot!"

That's comraderie!

Karl, a trial for Hochstedder would be too good for him!  I would love to see Klink dress him down.  Then a trial!

How sad LeBeau would lose his family but it happens.

Quite sad in deed.  This is exactly what happend to Robert Clary.  He did a documentary on the subject that is a 7 part series on YouTube.  Each part is about 10 minutes long.  Well worth the time spent watching it.

Clary still bears his concentration camp tatoo.  There is a part of the documentary where he speaks of writing a note, then tossing it out the 'window' of the rail car he is on, headed towards a camp.  At the time he has no idea what lies ahead.   In some movie, "Shindler's List", I think, I remember a scene where a young man of about 10 years writes a note and tosses it out of the rail car.  This was inspired by Clary's real life event.

Yes, he had a higher rank, but the SS outranked Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht.. or so they thought.  You will notice that Burkhalter showed no fear for the little Major.  After all, it was alluded that Burkhalter was on Hitler's senior staff and had the private number of Heinrich Himmler.

Everyone has some great ideas.  I posted a story on Fanfiction.net called "Out the Front Gates." As you might guess, it's a liberation story.  Please read and review.  Very Happy

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4797787/1/Out_the_Front_Gates

For a more sobering vision  of what would happen if the operation was discovered: please see...http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4884573/1/Sole_Survivors  I actually think I made this as realistic as possible. Please read and review.   Very Happy

Anyone who reads and reviews will get a complimentary get out of jail free card to Fanfic Court...LOL

Actually, all kidding aside...like all of us, I love any kind of feedback. It helps improve my writing.

I think a good Hogan's heroes finale would have been if Hogan helped Klink and Schultz from being shot by the Gestapo. So in the end Klink would have gotten to know about the tunnels.
