The title is makes reference to a song of a smiliar title:  "Praise the Lord and Pass The Ammuntion".  Written in 1942 shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Kinch plays in the stage 'band' with an unidentified Jazz Guitarist and an accordion player.  The guitar appears to be a D'Angelico make.

Colonel Deutsch when he's had enough says, "Enough of this kinderspiel."  aka Children's play or children's games.

Where upon Newkirk brings the two officers into his act by cracking two eggs into Klink's hat.  He correctly counts Ein, Zwei.  (One, Two).

I am mystified by the fact that the Germans allowed Hogan to keep the dummy grenade.  Even a dummy grenade could be used to talk one's way out of camp.

While it isn't directly stated, we are to assume SS Colonel Deutsch was killed when the H.Q. was hit by a live grenade.  A subtle, not, in-your-face way of reminding you that behind the comedy, the setting was a real-life, dangerous situation.

I'm watching this one right now.  That Col. Deutsch is played by a well known actor that has played several Germans in other episodes.

You're right- the fact that the whole command staff was "wiped out" as Klink said as well as other soldiers was a very serious situation masked by the genius of the show's comedy.

In light of the Ft. Hood tragedy, I know I sound horrible- I can feel a little bad about the regular soldiers getting killed.  I know it was war and they committed atrocities... but like Klink and Cpl. Karl, I know there were men in the German army that didn't want to be in it.

BUT then again, there were others like Col. Deutch (sic) that DESERVED the pain and humiliation.  He was a career officer who only liked his prisoners DEAD- by his own words.

Good episode- not my favorite but a good one nonetheless.

And it was cool to see Kinch on bass and LeBeau could sing! But of course it was Newkirk's act on Klink's hat that stole the show.

Have you noticed that when Hogan and his men are disguised as Germans, Hogan is wearing his moustache. Now if memory serves me right Deustch has no moustache. So is Hogan making a mistake or is someone else impersonating Deustch?
