For lack of any better place, posting progress of the re-building of Stalag 13 in 3D. My project which will serve several purposes in the long run, and be fun because it's.... well.... Hogan's Heroes!

Guard Tower and Entrance Gate

In the works, will update on this post as it develops...

Tower in the works, posted here:

I know the image is from the pilot, and there are some very minor differences between the pilot and series designs. I'll probably make those alterations to match the series more, but am just focusing on the pilot tower as it shows some good structure features.

After I get the support beams for the roof and underside of the floor finished, all that will be left are the access (trapdoor, ladder, etc.), the flagpole and spotlight.

When complete, it will show as though painted, with seams for boards, slats, and other details not visible in this rough-up.

I do need to figure out how the guards get up and down... whether it is via one of the sides, or through a hatch in the floor. The clips I have eyeballed so far show no outward sign of any ladders, etc. It could be that there is a ladder that is under the floor, hinged and fold-up or telescoping, and swings up and out of view somehow. Any feedback on that?

UPDATE: Below, starting to add "textures" to replace the plain, flat coloring. Note panel effects around wall, intended to look like painted boards with slight 3D slits between boards and some variation to the paint appearance...

Interesting.

Rope Ladder?  This would prevent escaping prisoners from trying to 'take' the tower from below.

Could be... I had considered that, but wasn't sure if it would be something that a permanent facility would utilize. I am sort of perusing episodes to see if there are any instances where tower access is portrayed.

I've updated the structure to be pretty much "series-standard" now. Getting the "textures" in line with the surfaces and get the tower into final form. For now, I think I'll wait before installing the actual access - ladder, rope, etc., until I find something to support it. None of the images I've reviewed so far show anything to indicate access means.

I was thinking that if they used a rope ladder, they could pull it up after they changed guards.  It would, therefore, be unseen.  I cannot see that any other type of retractable ladder, like a fold-up ladder would be placed on such a structure.  It's just a guess.  They could have driven spikes into the leg poles like on a telephone pole.  I'll have to pay closer attention during the guard tower episodes to see if anything shows up.
