Here is a piece of Trivia.  What Rifle did Schultz carry in the show?

The why or why story published not might or might not be true as Germany used secondary armaments for its not first line troops.

Let get some guesses before I post the answer.

here is a screen Cap of the rifle Schultz normally carried.

This rifle is a Danish Krag-Jorgensen not a German Mauser.  The common thought thread is that John Banner is thought to have refused to carry a Nazi rifle so this is what he carried.  Another thought is that it was simply the goof of the prop man, after all a rifle is a rifle - right?

In actuality it was very common for the second or third line German forces to be armed with other than front line weapons.  History shows that 30,000  Danish Krag-Jorgensens were taken by German forces and were shipped into Germany, so it is very possible that the rifle Shultz carries in the show is what a German Sargent at a Luft-Stalag would have been armed with.

This is what the front line German Solder was armed with a M98K Mauser chambered in 7.92x57mm Mauser

Right ON!!!!  That did happen is an episode I will locate it and post the number.

We know of one actual goof by the props man, it happened when Schultz was carrying a M1903 Springfield, an American  Military Rifle and it is very doubtful that that would have been true.

This is a M1903 Springfield

In an early ep, The germans are carrying Thompson sub-machine guns.  These are of American manufacture and issue.

I suspect since this show might appeal to WWII vets, the phones started ringing at the networks that if they did a show like this they should get the equipment right.

Eventually, the Germans of Stalag 13 were issued German or German replica weapons.

In the Ep where Hogan tests the new secret body armor, Hogan takes Schultz's gun to test the vests.  THAT rifle was not German issue.  I don't remember what make or model it was.

Most of the time they are using Mp40s as a guard weapon, but in some episodes (Go light on the Heavy Water) the guard to the truck (Shultz) is carrying a thompson.

And about shultz's rifle I think it was the only rife the props warehouse had because no other germans have the standard issue k98. Surprised
